Internal Linking Strategy 12/01/05 - Search Engine Relevancy

The most overlooked part of a web site is it inter connectivity for spiderablity which you can call internal linking. The most important reasons you need to do this properly is to increase search engines ability to crawl your pages as well as creating an environment for site wide theming. Site wide theming helps insure pages do not get lost in the overall scoop of a site. This can result in pages being put in Google's Supplemental Index. That leads to pages that do not help the overall site theme.

To create a better environment for theming youneed to connect your site better internally. Here are a few of key things that need to be done.

1: Link related pages together using static text links. Using proper anchor text helps theme and the static links show more pages linking to each other which gives more points of reference for the destination page.

2: Use static text linking for navigation. Either as a simple footer or as your regular navigation. Text linking should be used to insure you are using the most search engine friendly linking as possible.

3: Simple site map should be implemented. Set up a simple text linking site map of all your most important pages. Do not link more then 100 links on this page or it begins to look like a spammed out link page. Make sure the site map is link off your static footer or simple text linking navigation.
