Best Elements for SER: Part 2
When working with search engine relevancy there are certain areas or elements of a site that should not be neglected.
4: Clean Code: Making sure you do not have css or java pushing the important body content down is a very important part of Search Engine Relevancy. All ways externalize when possible.
Learn More5: Visitor usability: This is essencial to search engine relevancy. Your visitors must be able to easily use the site to find information. If they can't find what they are looking for then they will not link to you as a resource.
6: Site Wide Updating: You need to be sure all of your pages are touched on a regular basis. If they are left stagnant then they will eventually fall into the
Google Supplemental Trap and then the page will be useless for your rankings.
Best Elements for SER: Part 1
When working with search engine relevancy there are certain areas or elements of a site that should not be neglected.
1: Title and H1 relevancy: These tags should represent what page is about exactly. Keyword stuffing here will only confuse your visitors and turn away search engines with rankings. Do not use more then one H1 tag. They were not meant to be used more then once. Keep your title short and descriptive. You do not want the title to be cut off when reading it in a browser title bar.
2: Resourceful Outbound linking: Don't be afraid to link out freely to resourceful sites. Just because you are not getting a link back doesn't mean this won't help you. The more resourceful you are the better chance the engines will see you as an authority site and therefore rank you better. Plus, this is just good for visitors.
3: Fresh useful content: This is by far the most important element of a successful site. It shows that you are dedicated to your topic and are here to provide regular information to your visitors. Trust me the engines do look for this.

The growth of "Search Engine Relevancy"
While SEO and Search Engine Optimization have been the leading terms to describe what we do, there has been some dramatic change in the way sites talk about search engine methodology. I have been monitoring the growth of the importance of the term "Search Engine Relevancy" in the search engines.
On 3/24/05 putting the term "Search Engine Relevancy" in quotes in Google, MSN and yahoo gave me low numbers of sites using that phrase on their pages.
Google: 685 pages use this exact term
MSN: 2,486 pages use this exact term
Yahoo: 1,520 pages use this exact term
Overture's activity count: 46
On 5/10/05 there was major growth in the presence of this term on sites.
Google: 12,600 pages use this exact term
MSN: 6,319 pages use this exact term
Yahoo: 26,900 pages use this exact term
Overture's activity count: 64
What this is telling me is that more people are shifting towards the importance of site relevancy over page tweaking. Or Search Engine Relevancy over Search Engine Optimization. While I am not all about destroying the idea of Optimization, I am about broadening the concept of Relevancy. The better the understanding about relevant methodology by SEO/SEM/SEwhatevers will make for better results and more refined knowledge on the internet.
